The Corner Of Pain - June '22

Marcus gives his June update on all the goings on at Reload, from his ‘Corner of Pain’.

Principal Physio, Marcus Pain, shares an update on all the goings on at Reload, from his ‘Corner of Pain’.

The Launch of our 6-week Rehab programs

The last few months have been quite an exciting time at Reload, we finally released our Reload Rehab Programs which had been a work in progress for many months. The motivation behind these is that we want our clients to get better, quicker, and we want to reward them for investing in doing so. One problem we have identified in the past is that it is too easy to half commit to rehab, with regular, but infrequent attendance in rehab classes, or not being reviewed and progressed often enough. Half commitment = half the result, so we want to change this, and The Reload Rehab Programs are the answer.

These 6-week programs offer significant savings on our rehab classes (MOVE or LOAD) if you are prepared to put the effort in, they have a built in Progression session where we review your progress and determine if further steps are needed, while also offering discounts off products and other services such as Remedial Massage, one on one Physio exercise sessions, or AxIT testing.

Speak to your Physio about whether they are right for you!

The uptake of our Rehab programs has been fantastic, which have led to over doubling the number of LOAD classes weekly, MOVE classes have also become more progressive, and most importantly goals are being achieved, and this is exactly what we want!

Onero for Osteoporosis

The juggernaut that is ONERO, just continues to build , we have seen a great bounce back following the last 2 years of lockdowns. What is more impressive is the bone density improvements and physical gains being made by the attendees. We are continually amazed to see what these older Osteoporotic people are achieving. With over 15 classes per week, many are nearly at capacity, we are now planning on how we can take this program further. This week, we are thrilled that Physio Georgia has now also completed her Onero training, so watch out for her taking some classes.

Staffing

After a couple of challenging years for our Myotherapist Millie (and all Myotherapists being unable to work during lockdowns), she has decided to return to uni for further studies, so it was sad to see her leave us. On a bright side, Remedial Massage Therapist Georgie has joined out team, and it has been great to see how well she has fit in to the Reload Team. If you feel a Remedial Massage is what you need, Georgie is with us Tues-Sat, and even has a weekly session at Coburg Leisure Centre.

We have also waved goodbye to Part Time Physio Jess who is moving on to other opportunities in the Sports Medicine field.

Other staffing news, both Stephen and Georgia celebrated their weddings (not to each other!), Richard can be heard continuously boasting about how well his Blues are going, and about winning our Staff Footy Tipping comp! Co-Practice Manager Julia was almost unanimously voted as Team Member of the Quarter, well done Julia! Sightings of Danielle, our other Co-Practice Manager, have been few and far between as she has been on clinical placements for her final year of a dietitian studies.

Physio upskilling

Jemima has just completed and passed the exam for Complete Concussion Management for health practitioners, this will be a fantastic new skill to have within our team.

Rebecca’s special interest of Physio for Eating Disorders continues to build interest and referrals from far and wide.

Physio Sam is busy preparing to relaunch our GLA:D for Osteoarthritis program with a free community talk in Mid July.

Dietitian Returns

We have welcomed back Dietitian, Mike O’Sullivan, to our team, with his new approach being far more accessible with Mon-Fri 9-5 availability via his new Lean Online consulting platform.

Reload Athlete achievements

We are super excited, but sad at the same time, that Montana Beruldsen has been drafted to the Sydney Swans AFLW  team, we have known her since she was a junior hurdler, now we cannot wait to see her zooming around in the Red and White, hurdling over opponents!

The evergreen Stu Harsley, now in the over 50s age group, just achieved an all time Personal Best at the Cairns Ironman and qualified again for Kona Ironman (World Championships). Just like a fine wine!

Fitworker360 Pre-Employment Assessments

And lastly, we have become an Accredited Fitworker360 practice, offering the most comprehensive Pre-Employment assessments available, looking at all aspect of an applicant for a position to determine if they are a good fit for position being offered. Neither the prospective employer nor the applicant want to start a role where an injury  is likely to be sustained. Only looking at the whole of the applicant, can we be sure that they are a suitable candidate.

As you can see, there is a great deal happening at Reload, we are always striving to improve our offering to help you achieve your physical goals. We would love your feedback!

We are also really excited about what the next few months holds too, we cannot wait to fill you in when a few more things have been confirmed!

The Corner of Pain- May 2020

The May Update for Owner and Principal Physio Marcus Pain

I do not know where to start with this month’s Corner of Pain, these last 2 -3 months have been the biggest of all roller coasters. So soon after the excitement of reopening after major renovations of our fantastic “new” facilities, came the impending doom of COVID-19. Then it hit and we had to try and find a balance between the health and safety of our community and continuing to service our clients, treat injuries, or ensure we do not spread a virus? We made the tough decision to close the practice for all in-clinic consultations on April 1st. Not a great ‘business decision’ however it was the right decision for the community and to do our part to minimise risk of transmission. Thankfully since that day, the transmission numbers have plummeted! We are not out of the woods yet, but there are not many places in the world I would rather be right now!

As physios, we always believed that with our knowledge to share, that Telehealth consultations could be a very beneficial service. We were thrilled that when telehealth became a necessity, that many of our clients got to experience ‘Virtual Physio’ and seen the benefits. We also delivered 5 variations of Livestream exercise classes with attendees all the way from Canada, New Jersey and East Gippsland as well as our locals! While our world was in isolation, our reach expanded! We introduced POSTURE, a class targeted at WFH’ers (Work From Home-ers), a short exercise class targeting primarily the upper body- initially 5 times per week for our clients. We have even been running these daily for a large local employer. And for you, every Wednesday POSTURE is FREE at Midday- you should join in!! We are pleased to say that Telehealth consultations will continue beyond COVID-19, so Virtual and Livestream services all look like being an ongoing part of the Reload future.

We are so pleased that over the last 2 weeks we have been transitioning back to running nearly all our in-clinic services. We are back close to full hours, our in- clinic exercise classes are back up and running and we are very relieved that we have managed to retain our full team through this period. However, we are not ‘just’ back working as usual, there are differences, significant differences. We have always believed we kept a high level of cleanliness within our practice but we have now dialed up our cleaning by a factor of about 20! We have higher expectations of our team, but also a higher expectation of our clients, we are asking everyone a series of COVID questions before EVERY attendance at our practice, we expect all class participants to clean the equipment after class attendance, washing/ sanitising hands is also expected upon arrival. This is the new world. We are all in this together.

Is this the new normal? Or will we return to what life previously was? Who knows? What we do know is that we are determined to keep servicing the community of the Brunswick, and surrounding suburbs to be their physical best. After a few weeks of despair not so long ago, we are hopeful that the future is looking more positive by the day..

In this May Newsletter Physio Carla has shared a great Sourdough recipe for those with the time on their hands, and Physio Anneka has shared some home exercises to keep looking after yourself while working from home (somewhat similar to some POSTURE class exercises).

We look forward to seeing our community again, and we hope everyone has been looking after themselves and each other.

Mel and I would like to say a huge Happy 13th Birthday to our gorgeous daughter CLEO! (22nd May)
